Luxury Travel in the Wild: Is Under Canvas Bryce Canyon Worth It?

Under Canvas Bryce Canyon

Under Canvas Bryce Canyon glamping had been on our radar for a while, and we finally had the chance to book the experience – we absolutely loved it. Nestled in a remote yet conveniently accessible location, the property is just a 15-minute drive from Bryce Canyon National Park. If you’re looking to unplug and relax in a stunning natural setting, Under Canvas Bryce Canyon is a must-try.

You can reach Under Canvas Bryce Canyon by flying into either Las Vegas, Nevada, or Salt Lake City, Utah. From both cities, it’s approximately a 4-hour drive through some of the most scenic landscapes in the Southwest.

Under Canvas Bryce Canyon Facts

Located at 1325 Johns Valley Rd, Utah 84764, Under Canvas Bryce Canyon feels like miles away from any populated area, yet it is only a 15-minute drive to Bryce Canyon National Park. Additionally, it is certified as one of the first Dark Sky resorts, which means that, on a clear night, you can expect to see a sky full of starts and maybe even the Milky Way.

This glamping resort offers:

  • 50 luxury safari-style canvas tents, spread across the landscape, including a mix of deluxe and stargazer tents, spacious suites, and the Hoodoo Suite—a unique two-tent configuration designed with families in mind.
  • Private en-suite bathrooms, complete with hot water, organic bath products, and flushing toilets, bringing comfort to the heart of the outdoors.
  • West Elm king-size beds that were plush and inviting, topped with high-end linens that offer a restful retreat after a day of adventure.
  • Suite tents that include a lounge area with a queen-size sofa bed, adding extra room for lounging or accommodating additional guests.
  • Each tent also has a private wooden deck with lounge chairs that create a quiet space to unwind, take in the scenery, or enjoy the crisp mountain air.
  • A wood-burning stove, stocked with firewood, adds warmth and atmosphere, particularly as temperatures drop in the evening.
  • An onsite dining area which serves daily specials, many of which are made with locally sourced ingredients.
  • Daily complimentary s’mores for guests to enjoy while waiting for the beautiful sunsets.
  • USB battery packs that provide limited charging capability for small devices and tent lighting (Of note is that we were never able to use these packs; they worked for the lamps inside our tent, but not for our cell phones.).
  • A selection of outdoor games, offering entertainment for both kids and adults throughout the day.

Checking in/out of the Under Canvas, Bryce Canyon

Check-in is 3pm and check-out is 10am, which is a bit earlier than many hotels. Plan accordingly. Of note is that the parking lot is not near most tents. The staff will assist you with transporting your luggage from your car to your tent both at check in and check out.

Under Canvas Bryce Canyon tents

The resort offers a variety of tents to suite travelers’ preferences.

  • Deluxe Tents – Spacious canvas tents featuring a king-size bed, a private en-suite bathroom with a hot shower, a flushing toilet, and a wood-burning stove. Perfect for couples or solo travelers seeking comfort with a touch of rustic charm.
  • Stargazer Tents – Similar to the Deluxe tents but with a unique twist: a viewing window positioned above the bed, offering unobstructed views of the night sky. Ideal for those who want to fall asleep beneath the stars without leaving the comfort of their tent.
  • Suite Tents – Designed with extra space in mind, the Suite tents include a private lounge area with a queen-size sofa bed, in addition to a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom. Great for small families or travelers wanting a little more room to relax indoors.
  • The Hoodoo Suite – An exclusive two-tent setup joined by a private deck, offering accommodations for families or groups. One tent features a king bed and lounge area, while the second includes twin beds, allowing both privacy and shared space in a unique and comfortable configuration.

Dining options

The Under Canvas Bryce Canyon offers:

  • Onsite Restaurant which serves a rotating menu of daily chef specials, made to order with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The meals we tried were excellent for a camping location. The restaurant was conveniently open from 6am to 10pm.
  • Local Beer & Wine Selection – a curated variety of local craft beers and a selection of wines available for purchase, perfect for pairing with dinner or enjoying on the deck.
  • Grab-and-Go Items – including sandwiches, salads, power bars, and other light fare – ideal for early risers heading into the park or guests wanting a quick meal option.
  • Unlimited Hot Beverages – complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available daily in the lobby tent, providing a warm pick-me-up throughout the day.
  • Nightly S’mores – complimentary s’mores around the campfire, enjoyed by guests of all ages as the sun sets.

During our stay, most guests seemed to choose to dine onsite for both breakfast and dinner, appreciating the convenience and quality of meals without needing to leave the property.

Overall impressions of the Under Canvas Bryce Canyon

Our stay at Under Canvas Bryce Canyon was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived until the time we checked out, everything exceeded our expectations for a luxurious camping experience.

Why we loved staying at this glamping resort:

  • Camping in a stunning setting. The 700-acre property felt like it stretched out to the horizon, offering breathtaking sunrises and sunsets each day. It was a truly peaceful place to wake up and wind down.
  • Comfortable accommodations. The bed was cozy, the linens soft, and we really appreciated the thoughtful touches like organic bath products and heating bottles to keep us warm on chilly nights.
  • Private bathroom in the tent = game changer. Having our own bath and toilet made a big difference. That said, the plumbing setup only provided hot water – including in the toilet – which made showering a little tricky. We definitely missed having the option for cold water.
  • Convenient onsite dining. After long days of hiking in Bryce Canyon, being able to grab a satisfying meal without leaving the site was a big plus.
  • Nightly fires and s’mores. This little tradition brought back childhood memories and made each evening feel extra special.
  • Custom tea blends. We fell in love with the teas offered onsite – they were so unique and soothing! We just wish there had been a way to buy some to take home.
  • The scent of Ponderosa pines. It’s hard to describe how amazing the air smelled – fresh, piney, and so clensing.
  • Amazing stargazing. Being far from light pollution meant the night skies were absolutely breathtaking. We spent hours just looking up.
  • Friendly, helpful staff. Every team member we interacted with was warm, welcoming, and eager to help with anything we needed.

In closing, our stay at Under Canvas Bryce Canyon was a great experience that we highly recommend. We will definitely consider experiencing another Under Canvas property in the future.
