Experiencing the Thompson Central Park – Hotel Review

Thompson Central Park NYC

The Thompson Central Park hotel is ideally located two blocks away from Central Park while being just steps away from many points of interest. Carnegie Hall, MOMA, 5th Avenue, many great restaurants are just a short walk from the hotel.

Below is our honest account of what staying at the Thompson Central Park New York is like.

Thompson Central Park Facts

  • Beautifully designed mid-century rooms and suites. Very comfortable beds and quality bed linens.
  • Upper floor rooms and suites feature views of Central Park or the busy streets below.
  • Excellent food options: an upscale restaurant, a casual dining option, an excellent bar, and in-room dining.
  • A fitness center and Drybar Salon conveniently located on the underground level.
  • Business services and meeting rooms

You can take a virtual look at the rooms and suites here.

Checking in/out of the Thompson Central Park

Check in is 3pm and check out is 12pm, which is a bit later than many hotels. If you arrive early, the hotel will store your bags at a minimum and will also accommodate you if your room is not available. Additionally, if you are a Hyatt Rewards program member, you can request a late check out. Becoming a Hyatt Rewards program member is free, and it provides great program loyalty perks – early check in, late check out, free breakfast (at the Globalist level) and more. We highly recommend it.

Rooms and Suites

The Thompson Cental Park offers both rooms and suites. We have stayed at both and found them to be very comfortable offering extra seating space, unique furnishings, water, and a coffee machine. The bed linens were of high quality and the bath towels were plush and absorbing. Robes and slippers were provided in each room.

The views of Central Park are in the distance and limited by the nearby skyscrapers, however it was still nice to see the park even if from afar.

Dining options

Parker's at the Thompson Central Park Hotel
  • Indian Accent restaurant for elevated dining. Chef Manish Mehrotra takes traditional Indian recipes and creatively reinterprets them – Kerala pumpkin curry, anyone? 😋 Be sure to grab a reservation ahead of time.
  • Burger Joint – considered a restaurant serving the best burgers in Midtown, the Burger Joint was always busy; there was a line of people waiting for a table anytime we went by. The place is that good and is known by locals and tourists alike. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed. No reservations are available, walk-ins only.
  • Parker’s for excellent cocktails, bite food and great music. This bar/lounge/restaurant was built as an ode to NY’s music history. Named after Charlie Parker this place has music at its heart. You can enjoy blues, jazz and even the modern Broadway hits. We loved it and you will too.
  • In-room dining options are also available and the menu features Milk Bar deserts. 😋

Overall impressions of the Thompson Central Park

The hotel gets our recommendation for the following reasons:

  • Excellent location
  • Unique and very comfortable accommodations
  • Within walking distance of major NYC attractions
  • Great for early walks/runs in Central Park
  • Excellent food options onsite
  • Very accommodating staff and management
  • Nice extras – gym, Drybar salon

We last stayed at the Thompson Central Park during Thanksgiving. The hotel location made it perfect for viewing the Thanksgiving Parade. As an added bonus, the hotel was moderately busy during this time of the year, which made for a perfect stay!

We will definitely consider staying at the Thompson Central Park on our next trip to New York City! And we recommend that you give it a try when you visit to the Big Apple.
